WHOTT held its tenth rally at the Devon County
showground, Westpoint, near Exeter on Sunday 16th
September 2012.
Compared to the previous year, and bucking the
weather trends of 2012, the skies above Exeter held the rain clouds
aloft long enough to keep the event totally dry!
A further advantage on previous years’ events was the
opportunity to use the wide expanse of parking area below the Orange
Gate that is normally reserved for Exeter University’s open day Park
& Ride facility. Their date had changed this year so our
visitors could instead park their cars where our exhibits used to be
and all the vehicle entrants, stall holders, refreshments and loos
could be contained within one area. The sheltered facilities
of the permanent entrance booth made for an obvious way in.
We are pleased to say all this worked well and
visitor numbers exceeded expectations with all programmes sold out.
Building on the success of this will be next year’s event when we
hope to host an increasing number of entrants. Full details of
this will be announced as soon as possible.
This year’s event coincided with the launch of
WHOTT’s new publication on AEC vehicles in the Westcountry.
Compiled by Philip Platt and John Sykes, it attracted a lot of
interest and inspired many extra AEC vehicles to attend. This
also encouraged more vehicles from the lorry fraternity who were a
welcoming balance to the buses and coaches that tend to dominate the
event. Copies of the book can be obtained direct from our
SHOP
page by downloading an order form. This also enables you to
purchase copies of other titles and photographs, full details of
which can be seen on that page.
The Trustees are extremely grateful for the time and
effort freely given by volunteers to make the rally a success.
Many thanks to everyone who made the day run smoothly and we hope
that you will be able to support us again on Sunday 8th September
2013.
The following vehicles were booked
to attend the 2012 rally.
