Restoration of Exeter City Transport No. 217 into the WHOTT Mobile Museum | ||||||||||||||||||
The Leyland Panther was the last of a batch of seven ordered by Exeter City Transport and delivered after ECT's absorption into the Devon General fleet. On 1st January 1971 the DG fleet became absorbed in turn into the Western National fleet. The Panther was converted to a Publicity and Promotions vehicle for the Western National Group by May 1980 and served in this role for no less than 20 years during which period it carried five different liveries in addition to Exeter green and Devon General poppy red. 217 was donated to WHOTT by First Western National in December 2000 and was restored by WHOTT friends to original Exeter livery. Photos taken in February 2001: and then in June 2001: shows the transformation - It had been a team effort and rewarding for all involved, particularly once the museum was out on the road for the summer season. |
